Justice Is Served

about

Dave: Frank wrote these words about a court case that he served on as a juror. It was great to come up with the music to fit this one. It’s a little long, but it tells the story. Rest In Peace Phyllis and Somsri….
Frank: I was selected to be a juror for a murder trial in which this guy was charged with killing his wife Phyllis in 2004. During the investigation the police discovered his first wife Somsri was killed from an “accidental” gunshot in 1973. To make a long story short, he was guilty of both murders. It seemed like the jury really got to know these two women from all the testimony from friends and family. After the trial I wrote the lyrics and Dave came up with the melody. A few weeks later at the sentencing hearing those of us jurors that decided to go meet some of Phyllis’ friends. The appreciation they showed us was incredible! I told them I wrote a song about it and they were excited to hear it. After Dave & I finished recording it, I sent a few copies to them and they were thrilled. I’ve been in touch with one of Phyllis’ friends frequently and met a few others. I just have to stop and think that how, even in death, Phyllis brought strangers together to become friends as some of the jurors have established long term friendships also. Truly amazing, and one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

lyrics

Justice Is Served

Worlds apart yet so much the same
We’ve come to know you only by name
Through pictures and friends we heard your story
And grown to respect you, Phyllis and Somsri

So full of life, so much to do
With beautiful smiles and energy too
Turning your houses into your homes
But sometimes your spirits felt so alone

Evil saw fit to take your life
Evil saw fit to call you his wife
Evil will now get what he deserves
Evil is finished, justice is served

Who could have known we’d lose you so soon
The pain, the grief, the lives that were ruined
We miss you a lot and now that you’re gone
Through family and friends your memory lives on

What brought us together, nobody knows
But grateful we stood by the verdict we chose
So rest in peace Phyllis and Somsri
We bid you farewell, we the jury

Evil saw fit to take your life
Evil saw fit to call you his wife
Evil will now get what he deserves
Evil is finished, justice is served

What goes on in a heartless mind
Anger and hatred can be so unkind
Selfishness rules the emotion of doubt
One way to end it, the coward’s way out
The coward’s way out

Justice is served
Rest in peace.
