Dave: In 2003, I received a call from an old friend that I haven’t seen or heard from in 24 years! Turns out he brought a bunch of us together. We were stationed on “Midway Island” in 1979-1980 and we had all tried to find each other but our dear friend, Joe Burke, found us! I can’t tell you what a great feeling it is when someone is looking for you after so many years. It’s really a special thing. I have always thought of the island that everybody wished they would get off someday, but now, I wish I were back there. To be a kid again and away from it all on the beautiful beach. The people and memories of Midway have always stuck with me and have inspired me to write this song. It is dedicated to Joe, Jedd, Josh, Howard, Randy, Ginny, Chris Shonka, Roach, Bill Tremblay, Junior Santoy, and so many more, and all the Goonies! “The place that I long to be, is across the sea, Midway On My Mind”.
Frank: I too served in the Navy (1979 – 1987) and over the past few years have been in contact with former shipmates. It certainly is great to talk about old times. I even had the opportunity to hook up with one of the guys, Phil, a couple of times while visiting in Florida. When Dave told me about the song he had in mind about Midway I was really anxious to do it. Hope all of you this goes out to enjoy it as much as I enjoyed recording it with Dave.
