Old Country Road

from Someday by Berglund & Bonafede

/

about

Dave: Frank wrote the words for this about a road where he grew up. When things mean a lot to you in life, it’s easier to write about. I love the changes in this song and again it was a challenge for me to come up with the music. The slow change in this song was inspired by my favorite band, RUSH, and the end section of the song, I harmonized the guitars to give it a BOSTON like effect. I think it’s one of the most powerful songs we’ve done.
Frank: This song is dedicated to my buddies Walter Evans, Eddie Flynn, Warren Hamer, and all of the guys and gals I hung out with while growing up in Plainview, Long Island, without whom life would have been extremely dull, and also to the memory of our great friend Brian Mannion who left us way too soon. It’s my Penny Lane.

lyrics

Old Country Road

Twelve years old
Bikin’ up the hill to school
The new kid in town
Tryin’ not to play the fool
Books in his bag
Makin’ friends, what a drag
Getting’ through those days
Just gotta stay cool

J V ball
Just wanna make the team
Me and the guys
Tryin’ hard to catch a dream
Givin’ it all ya got
Could we make it or not
Just something to do
Passin’ time on the field

Old Country Road
From east to west you stretch for miles
Old Country Road
You felt our tears, you saw our smiles
All the good and all the bad
All the happy and the sad
Old Country Road takes me through my hometown

Senior prom
Brings an end to simple times
No games after school
Livin’ separate lives
Cruisin’ the town just once more time
A brand new start
Leavin’ home behind

Saw the world
Sharing memories of home
New friends, new things
Another road
Thinkin’ back
On our reckless ways
Wouldn’t change a thing
The good ole days

(chorus)

You can’t go back, that’s what they say
Tried it once, couldn’t wait to get away
But all those days in the past
Were the best of times, oh what a blast
