Swimming To Angola

about

Several years ago I met a gentleman by the name of Christopher Blin. He is, in every sense, a world traveler. Working for Rotary International, he visits various towns and villages in 3rd world countries, becomes part of the communities, and teaches the locals things they otherwise would not know how to do. Helps repair and construct buildings, and how to basically survive as modern technology pretty much passes them by. He also carries a load of Frisbees with him and uses them as an ice-breaker to make new friends. Chris wrote a book called Swimming to Angola about his travels to 96 (at the time of the writing) countries, sort of a diary of his experiences in those countries. I was so impressed by his stories and experiences that it inspired me to write this song. I can only hope it does justice to this amazing person who gives so much of himself to others. - Frank

lyrics

Swimming To Angola

Seen so many places and so many things
Beautiful faces and the joy that it brings
Crossed so many borders, met sons and daughters
Even had myself a fling

Amsterdam, Panama, places between
Deserts and mountains, jungles and streams
Scorching heat, frigid cold, places serene
Every land a peculiar scene

From the Capetown to the Congo, I’ve traveled so far
Swimming to Angola and driving my car
Cultures and religions that seem quite bizarre
But the stars look the same wherever you are
Yes the stars look the same wherever you are

Workin’ with the locals to rise above
Hangin’ out, playin’ games, sharing our love
Saw the world, learned of life from fathers and sons
Had some trouble but I had some fun

Waking in the morning it's a brand new day
Thinking of home, so far away
Packing up again though I wanna stay
Time to get on my way

From the Capetown to the Congo, I’ve traveled so far
Swimming to Angola and driving my car
Cultures and religions that seem quite bizarre
But the stars look the same wherever you are
Yes the stars look the same wherever you are

From the Capetown to the Congo, I’ve traveled so far
Swimming to Angola and driving my car
Cultures and religions that seem quite bizarre
But the stars look the same wherever you are
Yes the stars look the same wherever you are
