Frank: Obviously a play on words, but based on an experiences I’ve had in my life. I respect everyone’s right to believe in whatever religion they choose to, or choose not to, but when you profess to be of certain mind you should, as they say, walk the walk if you’re going to talk the talk. I can’t stand hypocrites. I had the lines in my head, “you shake my hand on Sunday, then stab my back on Monday”, so I wrote the rest of it around that idea.
lyrics
The Hypocritic Oath
Bells are ringin’, the choir’s singin’
Welcome all races and creeds
Raise your hands my fellow man
The Lord will hear your needs
We’re free to believe in a higher power
Muhammed, Jesus, or even Allah
Step right in and find a pew
Your God is watching over you
You shake my hand on Sunday
Then stab my back on Monday
Smilin’ while you’re preachin’
Don’t believe in what you’re sayin’
We’d love to have you join our church
And wash away all your hurts
Love and friendship here for you
With a bit of judgement thrown in too
Turn to page 107
Let’s read about Hell and Heaven
Be good, be kind, and always pray
Have your sins washed away
You shake my hand on Sunday
Then stab my back on Monday
Smilin’ while you’re preachin’
Don’t believe in what you’re sayin’
I’ll believe in what I believe
Don’t need your lies to help me grieve
Life’s not fair, that’s the bottom line
Truth and justice are only mine
