The Song Is Never Over

about

Dave: I came up with this tune. I wrote my first poem without rhyme in 1986, called “THE MEMORIES”. The poem starts off, “the song is never over and the memories never die”. The poem was written for my first wife, Ginny, as it mentions a certain memory in the second section of the poem. But the song was written about a man who loses his wife to cancer and tells the story from when they met to losing his wife and now that life goes on, he will go on thinking of her and that the memories never die. My brother lost his first wife to lymphoma when she was in her early 30’s and left behind a young daughter. I was in the Navy and couldn’t be there for him. I was always thinking what he must have gone through. That inspired the song but it’s for anyone who has lost a loved one. Frank loved this line “the song is never over and the memories never die” so much that he wanted it on our website and said he wants that on his tombstone. For someone to say that is definitely a compliment to me as a song writer. We both wrote the words. That’s teamwork! There’s no I in team!!
Frank: The story this song tells hits home to many. As John Lennon says in “Beautiful Boy”, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” In my opinion, “The song is never over and the memories never die” is probably the best line I’ve ever heard. It says so much. It’s not just talking of a particular song, it means your life, everyone’s life, and everywhere you’ve been and experienced. You may leave a certain place or not be in touch with someone anymore but the memory of those events can never die. Our “song” (life) will physically end one day but we will live in the memory of others.

lyrics

The Song Is Never Over

The song is never over
And the memories never die
Like a winter and a warm spring
They will always pass us by
I remember when we first met
We were in high school
You walked by with all your friends
And I tried to be so cool

Then November came like the wind
And love was in our eyes
Yeah I fell so hard for you
Here is where our story starts and a new song begins
And a memory of you

A couple of years passed by
And in the spring we were wed
Life was like a dream come true
Together forever we said
The walks along the beach
The sunlight in your hair
We laughed and loved and shared so much
You’d always be there

Then one day a cloud came by
And darkened our sunny skies
They said my baby’s going away
Life could be so beautiful but life could be unfair
All I have to say

I love you………

The song is never over
And the memories never die
And memories are all I have of you
In my mind
Forever I will see your face
Forever you will hold that place
Forever you will be in my heart
In my heart

The song continues on
Through our memories
Puts me in an endless déjà vu
Life goes on and I go on thinking of you
I love you
